In 2016, I began teaching at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, leading courses on narrative writing and reporting, with a focus on democracy and inequality. During the spring and summer of 2020, I worked with the Investigative Reporting Program as an editor on Cal's ground-breaking partnership with The New York Times, which led to dozens of students receiving bylines.

Prior to teaching at Cal, I was a visiting professor at Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. 

 

I've also run weekend narrative writing workshops at the Berkeley Journalism Narrative Conference, moderated a panel in the Dean's Speaker Series in Business and Journalism, and done my best not to embarrass my daughters during Career Day at the local middle school.
